The property known as Santa Teresita Church was designed in 1920 by architect Jose Maria Barrantes, a leading exponents of the architecture of the twentieth century in Costa Rica. This church is one of the finest examples of neoclassical style in our country, with a plant basilica of three vessels, columns and Ionic and Corinthian order windows with tympanums.
For the construction were used technological innovation, and a reinforced concrete structure to make imported from Belgium. The church contributed to shaping the District Aranjuez, one of the wealthiest in the San Jose in the beginning of the XX century. This building has become with the passage of time in a historic landmark, architectural and urban.
Located in Av. 9th and Street 23rd in Barrio Aranjuez. It was built in 1930’s. It’s a nave, white church. Above the main entrance is hang the balcony supports on each corner by four columned structures. It’s accented with high quite narrow dome in back side. The facade wall is divided by pilasters and stood out with rectangular windows topped by triangular tops. On the roof is put the figure of Santa Teresita.
It has been declared Incorporated and the Historic Architectural Heritage of Costa Rica, according to Executive Order No. 27643-C, published in Official Gazette No. 34 of February 18, 1999, designated as closed. It is part of the Ownership of Temporalities of the Catholic Church of Costa Rica, Archdiocese of San Jose.
