Founded in 1962 under purely investigative and educational purposes, the MIUCR has also stretched its activities to also accumulate important scientific collections developed from stern research projects. It has established numerous links with scientists and renowned entities around the globe.

It poses as main objective that of making permanent exhibit of the amazingly large biodiversity of insects of our country.

Initiated with over fifty-nine thousand specimens, currently it consists of about one million collected from several investigation projects. Over one hundred specialists from abroad are also linked in collaboration on a constant basis.
