San Jose offers within its cardinal distribution several choices for shopping activities. Apart from the regular and standard “tienda” that can be found in every neighborhood and especially downtown, there is a number of specialized “Malls” and Galleries. Following we will name the main ones with some information on their whereabouts and specialties:
Mall San Pedro: Large shopping complex, built in a “Galleria” style, offering a large a range of possibilities from main necessity items to high-end clothes. Located in front of “Fuente de la Hispanidad”, between the San Jose and San Pedro neighborhoods.
Multiplaza (West): beautiful and roomy shopping center, perhaps the most luxurious offer in the San Jose Area. Located in Guachipelin de Escazu, next to Real Intercontinental Hotel.
Multiplaza (East): the counterpart to Escazu’s Multiplaza, attempting to bring a similar offer to the Eastern Neighborhoods of San Jose. Located in Curridabat, near the building of the Registro Nacional, on main Zapote-Curridabat road.
Plaza Cristal: One of the few remaining “Open Space” shopping center in town. Restaurants and specialized stores make this place a different ambient from the standardized mall. Located in Curridabat, 600 meters south of Pops.
Plaza del Sol: The first of a new generation of high quality shopping made available in San Jose throughout the 1980s, combines an open space and indoors ambient. Offers choices as varied as Bansback Music Store to major supermarket chain end Automercado. Located in Curridabat, in front of McDonalds Curridabat.
Plaza Mayor: The western response to Plaza del sol, comfortable shopping space and Galleria styled halls. Located in Rohrmoser, in Boulevard Rohrmoser more accurately speaking.
